What is... A Thesis.

All men are created equal... But what about women? Women have always been inferior to men in nearly all aspects, however the value that we place has gone up and down so much that I'm surprised that it has not come to have a position in the stock market. In this essay I will be outlining the way that the value of women has always been in direct correlation to her position of power within the household. You will see the way that women have gone from being almost equal, to barely visible, all the way to the way that they have slowly started to take back this idea of equality within the patriarchy society of sweet America.

In essence my essay will highlight the way that women and men have divided the importance of work and its relation to the way that women are held in society. I have learned a vast majority of this information in both my sociology and African American classes. The reason that I am taking this approach is because it has a huge effect on the way that we look at family and place values on the idea of family. It also has a very big effect on the way that the government goes on to help families that are struggling. It is also very important to note that the information that would be being analyzed comes from the majority of the American population which means the focus of my paper would encapsulate the essence

  1. I like how you use your sociology and African American classes. Application of what you have learned in your classes is good thing because that shows you actually learned from these classes. I think your topic(Transitions in Gender role of women) has distinctive transitions, and it would be really awesome for your paradigm shift essay.

  2. Good idea. Consider finding time periods and possibly structuring your essay from that. It could help with organization.

  3. I think the correlation between place in the family and place in society is really interesting! So far it seems like you have good content to work with.

  4. Jamirah, interesting approach, yet I encourage you to bring even more focus to how you're defining the value of women. Do you mean their monetary value -- like how much they contribute to a the family finances with an outside career, or their social value -- like how a women can be the emotional "glue" that holds a household together, or how much "work" they do for a family -- like how domestic chores are distributed between women and men?

Or, are you proposing some other definition of "value" entirely?

The more precise you can be with this from the onset, the more focused your entire argument will be. Right now, I'm a bit confused with the scope and focus.

One other thing to consider, once you have the focus honed, you also need to define the time frame. What are key points when the "value" of women might have shifted?

Also, the last sentence seemed to drop off without finishing. Where were you going with that thought?

    I hope this helps!
